Rod's Musician's Corner

April 17, 2009

I've finally completed the new cd and am real happy with it. I played more harp than the last few cd's and there are a few great twists there.  I'm still waiting for the new Rod Piazza signature harps from Hering.  I don't know what's taking so long but I'll be sure and let all you harp players know as soon as I receive them.  I also am enjoying the new Little Walter 5 CD box set with all the out-takes.  "That boy could blow some harp" as George Smith used to tell me.

Hey now!

I'm trying at this time to conjure up material for the upcoming cd. When I say "conjure" I mean just that. Because it (the material) comes from all kinds of sources. Old records, a phrase or a quote Honey tells me, or a lick or musical line that I fall on while playing the harp. Other than that, I'm trying to keep the group working in a proud fashion and not sink to the depths of our times.

Also, my signature harp is almost available from Hering Harmonicas. I'm very excited about that. The Hering Rod Piazza Signature Model will have a wood comb and a similar cover plate to a Marine Band. The reed plate will be a bronze or new alloy they have developed. They both are designed to keep the harp in tune longer. I'm waiting right now for a sample of each to make my decision. I will be selling the harps on my gigs and in our Mighty Flyers store. No time of delivery is set yet since the decision on the type of reed plate metal is still pending. But I will let you know, by posting it on our website, as soon as they are available.
